GET RID OF IMPOSTOR SYNDROME WITH 4 EASY STEPS
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO FEEL LIKE THIS
It’s hard not to feel like you’re acting, playing a part or totally fooling everyone sometimes. Limiting beliefs, fears and a scarcity mindset are all part of impostor syndrome.
I had this when I was a teacher in secondary school, I had it when I did my Yoga teacher training and I most certainly had it with opening a yoga studio. In my first year of business my impostor syndrome got so bad that I felt crippled by an instagram post, a passing comment or any fluctuation in socials or class numbers.
I knew this had to stop and that I couldn’t carry on running my business like this so I decided to work with a few coaches and do some courses on how not to let impostor syndrome take over your life.
There are small things you can do everyday to help with your impostor syndrome and I wanted to share with you my top tips!
START WITH YOURSELF
Trying to demolish the voice screaming ‘YOU’RE AN IMPOSTOR’ really comes down to your mindset.
You need to start with yourself and this doesn’t mean a makeover, a diet or joining the gym.
You want to build yourself up. To build up your confidence and help you believe in yourself you need to Invest in yourself with things like:
- fit in time for self care
- shower and put on clothes that make you feel good
- eat healthy
- prioritise you!
Look at how you spend your time and then retrain patterns of thinking and actions. How much of your time is spent on socials scrolling, watching TV, sitting, looking after others and not yourself? Changing some of these negative patterns or spend less time doing them
Put practices in place to not feel overwhelmed, tired, comparing and lacking confidence. STAY IN YOUR OWN LANE.
REVERSE ENGINEER NEGATIVITY: TURN WHAT IF ‘I CAN’T DO IT’ TO WHAT IF ‘ I CAN’
When impostor syndrome starts to chat in your ear you can start to go over all the negative what if’s it can sound a lot like this: What is I can’t grow my audience? What if no one buys it? What if it doesn’t work? What if I don’t have time? What if I just can’t do it?
These conversations won’t get you anywhere and are going to do NOTHING to big yourself up and fill your bad ass bucket.
INSTEAD
Make your ‘what if’s ‘ positive. Turn those thoughts around and make them positive. Let your brain and your dreams spend time working out what will happen if things go well. What if I grow my audience? What if I sell my course? What if my course is a success? What if I plan and work effectively? What if I can really do it?
DON’T SIT STILL. BE A BADASS AND GO FORWARD.
We can all put the brakes on. We can all lose our confidence. We can all feel like we have no idea where we’re going. But it’s what we do to counteract these feelings that really makes the difference.
These feelings come from lack of clarity and a lack of a plan. You need to know what you want to achieve to feel accomplished in taking steps to get you to where you want to go. You need to have clear and achievable goals to tick them off your list and feel like a badass.
When we have lack of confidence and clarity we sit in fear and lack the courage to take action. You need to muster up courage to take action not once but over and over again. Each time you’re able to take action you accomplish something and this is the evidence and proof of how much of a badass you are. You just gotta keep going.
You can allow this lack of confidence to stop you from achieving your goals or even getting started OR you can address and commit to working and connecting to the community you want to show up for.
ESTABLISH A POSITIVE DAILY ROUTINE
It doesn’t matter what this routine is as long as it resonates with you and makes you feel good. It doesn’t have to take you all day either. You just need to spend 30-60 minutes of directed time that is solely for YOU!
TRY THESE OUT:
MANTRAS AND AFFIRMATIONS :
These are a great way of silencing the impostor voice brining you down. Use sayings to manifest and bring on confidence: ‘today I am going to show up for my community’ ‘money flows easily and effortlessly to me’ ‘I deserve love and kindness’
NO PHONE FIRST THING:
Leave your phone alone in the morning. Checking your phone first thing starts the day focusing not on yourself but on other people and problems. This is reactive not proactive. Start focusing on your priorities
VISUALISE YOUR SUCCESS:
Harness the power of the subconscious mind. Connect with your goals and dreams. Visualise the biggest and best outcomes
YOGA:
Movement, breathing, meditation all things yoga are good things. You start your day calm and mindful.
JOURNAL:
This time to write gives you clarity and creativity. If you struggle to write or think of things to write about there are lots of journals you can buy that are guided like the 5 Minute Journal. This allows you to document moments in your life, goals and dreams.
SET YOUR INTENTIONS:
‘I am’ Write your intentions in first person, in present tense and with positivity. This allows you to manifest from within. When we work with intentions we raise emotional and physical energy reaffirming where you’re headed and what you want to create.
INSPIRATION:
Get your hands on lots of books, podcasts, videos, music and things that resonate with you. These will increase brain power and knowledge making you a better leader, business owner, parent and colleague. Commit to a small amount each day. This can be while you’re driving to work, having your cup of coffee, walking the dog or cooking-a little bit each day will have a major impact.
PRACTICE GRATITUDE:
This simple act will help you to experience more positive emotions and note the positive things that happen in your life. Keeping a gratitude list, journal or meditation helps you move from scarcity/impostor mindset to abundance and confidence. The more you are connected and thankful for what you have the more you attract.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH EPIC PEOPLE:
The more positive and incredible the people are that you spend time with the more it will rub off on you! Want to beat impostor syndrome, don’t hang around negative people who bring you down. Let the people around you boost your confidence, inspire you and mentor you!
